An Appeal letter from Solomon Teclu, Vice Chair of EDF Board
Greetings Friends,
I would like to extend my greetings to all of you. I also want to invite you to an upcoming event worthy of your support. I am sure you know that I have been involved with Eritrean Development Foundation as the transitional board member and now as Vice Chairman on the current Board. I am very excited with the progress EDF is making as well as the dedication and ability of the current diverse Board members.
I get a tremendous satisfaction in knowing that you and I are blessed enough that we have the ability to save lives. Imagine that you and I have the power, by our simple actions, to save a fellow human being from dying of hunger. WOW!! Perhaps I am getting old and sentimental but I tell you, I am moved by the fact that you and I can be responsible in preventing children, mothers and elders from starving to death.
I have spoken to people who have recently returned from the draught affected areas in Eritrea and people are dying. The elders are dying quietly in their homes. I am sure you know about the Eritrean culture and pride. They do not beg and they are unable to help themselves. They have left their fate up to God. We have to step in and say we will never forget you and we will never write you off.
This past year has been a tough time for some of us - we have been worried about our day-to-day affairs, jobs, etc; Maybe we even forgot to count our blessings. I was fortunate enough to travel to Eritrea from coast to coast with 48 youth for summer camp in Eritrea. I was amazed and touched with the amount of love and affection we received from all of the people in Eritrea and the joy in their faces to see all the young people visiting their homes. We are forever connected to them and we have left a little part of us in every village we stayed and we have promised to be back to reclaim it.
Please join us for an evening filled with joy and reflection as we honor author Thomas Keneally and celebrate Eritrean Development foundation's 5th year anniversary on May 22nd. If you are unable to come, please send your generous contributions to the Eritrean Development Foundation and mail it to 1012 14th Street, NW, Suite 308, Washington, DC 20005.
May God bless you.
Solomon Teklu
Vice Chairman of the Board
