The EDF fund raising event held in Southfield, MI on January 11th for the victims of the drought in Eritrea was very successful
Eritreans and friends of Eritrea from Michigan, held a very successful
funds raising event for the drought victims last Saturday (Jan. 11th).
People (including from Chicago, Ohio, and Windsor - Canada) ventured
for this worth while event despite the frigid Michigan winter weather. It
was really very cold and their commitment to come and participate
makes the event all the more encouraging and reassuring of what people
coming together to help can do.
The musical entertainment was preceded by a brief PowerPoint presentation on the extent and impact of the drought in Eritrea by Dr.
Yacob Fisseha, the Chairman of the EDF. Thanks to those who attended,
those who made special donations, and above all the musicians who
donated their time and talent, we were able to raise over $10,000 for the
EDF. Michale 'Mike' Zere from Atlanta, Dawit Tesfamariam from Houston
and Tesfamaraim 'Wedi Embaye' Adhanom from DC had the attendees,
young and old dancing, almost nonstop. These guys know how to do the
music; we are very grateful to them; EDF's head office for administrative
backstopping was very admirable.
I wish I could share the slogans we had in Tigrinya but the most common
one adoring each table was in English: "NO ERITREAN WILL DIE OF
HUNGER AS LONG AS WE ARE AROUND". Those who have Geez software
might be able to post the ones in Tigrinya as well to give
more details of the event.
